PART OF A GREATER COMMUNITY

Land Acknowledgement

Snovalley Pride is based in the town of Carnation, WA which is on the Indigenous Land of Coast Salish peoples who have reserved treaty rights to this land, specifically the Snoqualmie Tribe (sdukʷalbixʷ). For more than 500 years, Native communities across the Americas have demonstrated resilience, and resistance in the face of violent efforts to separate them from their land, culture and each other. They remain at the forefront of movements to protect our Mother Earth and the life She sustains. Acknowledging Indigenous lands recognizes the long history of the land upon which we reside, and places us in that context of history.

Since the confluence of the Tolt and Snoqualmie Rivers generations ago, the Snoqualmie people have been here on this Sacred land. We acknowledge the power, life and gifts the Snoqualmie River, Tolt River, and surrounding mountains and farmlands provide to all of us that have, and continue to call this land home. We acknowledge that the town of Carnation is located on land, and water that is the current and ancestral home of the Snoqulamie people and the Coast Salish Tribes that have traveled through and lived on these lands. We acknowledge the painful history of genocide, forced assimilation, and efforts to alienate the Indigenous inhabitants from their territory. We honor and respect many diverse Indigenous people that continue to be connected to this land, retain Tribal Sovenity, treaty rights and their cultural resistance. Indigenous people are spiritual and physical caretakers of this land to which we all belong. The Snoqualmie Tribe has been, and continues to be an integral part of our community and we look forward to collaborating with them on many upcoming projects. Snovalley Pride respects these sacred lands, stands with the community members from these Nations, and commit to bringing awareness to and fighting injustice in all forms.
